Ozark Natural Foods - Recycling Center

Reduce, reuse, recycle…

We have a recycling center in our parking lot. This center takes the following:

-Newspaper
-Magazines/White Paper
-#1 & #2 Plastics (descriptions of these below)
-Aluminum Cans
-Steel Cans
-Cardboard
-Glass

We do not allow CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lights), as they are hazardous.

Accepted in our recycling center*:

#1 PETE plastics consist of polyethylene terephthalate and are most easily recyclable. Items include: pop bottles, water bottles, ketchup bottles.

#2 plastics HDPE consist of highly dense polyethylene and are fairly easy to recycle. Items include: many heavyweight jars, cleaner containers, milk jugs, lotion bottles.

Not accepted in our recycling center:

#3 plastics PVC consist of polyvinyl chloride and is the most damaging of all plastics. It leaches phthalates when used and releases carcinogenic dioxins when manufactured and burned. Items include: most clamshells, some waterbottles and some small containers.

#4 and #5 plastics LDPE and PP consist of low density polyethylene and polypropylene and are reasonably safe. Items include: most reusable household product containers, yogurt containers, medicine bottles.

#6 plastics PS consist of polystyrene and are mainly on “to go” containers. This type of plastic can leach styrene, a carcinogen. Items include: disposable containers that most restaraunts use, picnic ware and cd cases.

#7 plastics PC consist of polycarbonate which can potentially leach bisphenol-A, a hormone disruptor. Items of #7 PC include: large water bottles, some to-go containers, honey containers. #7 plastics PLA are not recyclable – be sure to check this before recycling.
